I have been predicting a Digg / Google acquisition for a long time now. Do you mind if I say I told you so? What I reall want to know is if Google plans to roll Digg like voting into Google search as they have already been seen testing social features in Google results.

I am glad you agreee with me since I said it four times. LOL

That was the new propeller errors, I tried to submit the article 5 times before it took and then none of my comments did anything but go to the 404 page.

Really, I was pretty excited about this post but I did not want to post the same comment 4 times.

I think Digg like voting in Google's search results would cause more problems than anything. You'd get armies of people paid to vote up results. Think about it.

Well, I know nothing much about digg but I think Digg need this deal since they are facing a lot of competition from mixx, reddit and propeller(which I use quite often). As I read that with the uncertainty of the ads revenue coming from microsoft, I think this deal might be seal.

Here's a video from TechCrunch showing those Digg-like features being tested by Google. http://www.techcrunch.com/2008/07/16/is-this-the-future-of-search/

That would be interesting to see. I know a lot of people who used to be avid google fans now thinking it has "jumped the shark". Same with digg. It will just be interesting to see how this pans out. I have heard lots of other stories over the years about people potentially buying Digg. Not sure if it all real or just hype.

There have been numerous offers to acquire Propeller as well.

The bidding seems to have topped out at about 85 dollars.

I agree, I already miss the ranking features and the recommendation engine for making friends.

There are a number of reasons that Google wants Digg:

                        The Digg algorithm patents.

The server resources and data centers that support the massive traffic Digg has.

Millions of unique visitors, ComScore rated Digg at 6 million plus unique users Dec. 2007.

Google also wants to take the Microsoft advertising deal away.

Larry Page frineded Kevin Rose on Digg and Kevin did not frined him back so he is pissed. LOL

It might be great. It might not. But it sure is interesting to watch.
